Vinyl-Lined Pools
The most popular type of inground swimming pool is a vinyl-lined swimming pool, which uses steel wall panels supported by steel braces. The shaped bottom of the swimming pool is usually formed by a combination of sand and cement that gives the bottom a hard, smooth surface. The vinyl liner is then placed over the steel panels and swimming pool bottom and is held in place using coping around the swimming pool's perimeter. When the swimming pool is filled with water, the liner stretches to the shape of the swimming pool and provides a smooth surface. more >>
Gunite Or Concrete Pools
Gunite or concrete swimming pools are also very popular. Gunite swimming pools are created by forming a network of steel reinforcing rods throughout the designed shape of the excavation and then blowing a mixture of concrete, stone and sand on top of the steel rods. The swimming pool walls and floor are finished using plaster or a variety of attractive coating products. Gunite swimming pools are more labour intensive and can take several weeks to install, depending on the complexity of the design. more >>
Fiberglass Pools
One-piece fiberglass swimming pools are another option currently on the market. A fiberglass swimming pool is prefabricated and shipped to the site on a trailer where a crane lowers it into place. The fiberglass shell is then plumbed and backfilled for support. Installation takes approximately one week. more >>
Above-Ground Pools
An above-ground swimming pool consists of a liner attached to a metal or polymer frame, usually in a round or oval shape. This type of swimming pool can be quite shallow, with some being just 2 ft. (0.6 m) deep. This is a nice feature for a family with small children. Almost anyone with average mechanical skills can install an above-ground swimming pool, however, with a large or more sophisticated swimming pool, you may want a professional to do the job. more >>
Onground Pools
If you thought a swimming pool was out of the question because of the steep slope of your backyard, think again. Made of rigid steel or aluminum walls, onground swimming pools are specially designed for uneven ground and feature a space-saving integral deck, stairs and fencing that also makes them ideal for yards with limited space. more >>
